Iceland is known for its numerous geysers, volcanoes, thermal springs and huge lava fields. Highlights are the Golden and Diamond Circle, any waterfall, the many Icelandic horses and the Blue Lagoon. Before travelling to the land of fire and ice, you should only be aware that it can be incredibly expensive on site.
There is no “right” time to visit Iceland. June to August is the best time for hiking, as all roads are open and the weather is fairly sunny. In the winter months, many roads are closed and you are quite limited in what you can do, but it is the best time to spot the Northern Lights in the Icelandic sky. May to August is the best time to see puffins. Whales, on the other hand, can be seen very well both in summer and winter.
You don’t need to carry a lot of cash in Iceland, as it is possible to pay with credit or debit cards almost everywhere. However, you will need a card that uses the chip and pin method!
