Wat That Luang

Laos

With mist over the mountains, monks in orange robes and the steady flow of the Mekong, Laos casts a spell over travellers. It is a country that does not lure you in loudly, but fascinates you quietly – with Buddhist tranquillity, stunning landscapes and a deeply rooted culture. Whether in the old royal city of Luang Prabang, among the coffee plantations of the Bolaven Plateau or while tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos offers moments of tranquillity and authenticity.

The best time to visit is between November and March. During this dry season, the climate is mild, the air is clear and even remote areas are easily accessible. Those who love tropical greenery can also travel during the rainy season, when nature awakens, albeit with occasional heavy showers.

Currency is the Lao Kip (LAK). There are plenty of ATMs in the larger towns and tourist areas, which also accept international credit cards. Otherwise, cash is a must – and card payments are the exception in accommodation and restaurants. Travelling will be more relaxed if you are prepared.
