A shard of glass through the heart of London – The Shard
The Shard is a highlight in the heart of London and the tallest building in the entire European Union. Views from this skyscraper are not only incredibly beautiful, but also a very famous photo motif.
Facts
- The Shard has a total height of 310 metres
- It was completed in time for the Olympic Games after just three years.
- The observation deck is almost twice as high as others in London.
- It has 95 floors
The Shard cannot be missed in London. The skyscraper is located directly at the underground station London Bridge, the entrance is in Joiner Street.
Once at the top, there are two levels. On the first one you are in a closed room. From there you have a beautiful view of London and with the help of multimedia stations (binocular simulators) you get detailed information about the buildings you are aiming at. You also have the option of ordering champagne and toasting to the great view. The upper level is accessible via a staircase. There, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of London, partly in open air. There are deck chairs and the floor is covered with artificial grass, which makes this place perfect for relaxing.
You can always take the lift back down and then buy souvenirs in a small shop. To be on the safe side, you should order tickets online in advance, not only because you save 10-15%, but also because capacity is limited. Especially in the evening, there is a risk of not getting any tickets.
Special features
The Shard is designed for disabled access! The fact that disabled people only have to pay a discounted entrance fee and are also allowed to take an accompanying person for free is great! This is offered far too rarely and is definitely worthy of recognition. Furthermore, there is a view guarantee. This means you can go up again in the next three months with your ticket if you can’t see at least three of these viewpoints due to bad weather conditions: London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Gherkin, Tower Bridge and One Canada Square.
