Machu Picchu

Peru

Peru is a country of contrasts, combining the Pacific coast, the highlands and the rainforest. Where else can you stroll through the streets of a colonial old town one moment, hike through the Andes at an altitude of over 3,000 metres the next, and then fall asleep in a jungle lodge by evening? Peru is a country full of contrasts, and this is precisely what makes it so fascinating.

The most popular time to travel is between May and October, when the dry season brings pleasant temperatures and clear visibility to the Andes. This is perfect for visiting Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, or going on multi-day trekking tours.

Credit cards can be used without any problems in many hotels and restaurants. However, you should always carry cash in Peruvian soles for markets, smaller towns and taxis. ATMs are easy to find in cities such as Lima and Cusco.
