Originally inhabited by Berbers, the city was later influenced by Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs. In the 20th century, the city flourished under French colonial rule. Housed in a converted 18th-century fort, the restaurant combines history and culinary delights in a unique way. It is polite to ask permission before photographing people, especially women. It is considered one of the most impressive religious buildings in the world. Completed in 1993, the mosque is impressive in its imposing size and astonishing design. Its minaret rises 210 metres into the sky, offering visitors a spectacular view of the city and the ocean.
