The Icelandic Ministry of the Environment is responsible for the long-term protection of the Gullfoss, providing visitors with pleasant access and minimizing the impact of people on the environment (flora and fauna). <\/p>\n<p>The Gullfoss amazes people; its variability and speed make this waterfall even stronger than the Niagara Falls in the USA.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d6f67cb e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d6f67cb\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-668482e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"668482e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Where does the name \"Gullfoss\" come from?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c3fca12 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c3fca12\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>There are three theories. The first theory is based on the rainbow that can be seen in the spray of the waterfall when the sun is shining. Another theory is that the golden evening glow that falls on the glacier water in the evening inspired the name Gullfoss. The last theory is basically a legend: A farmer used to live on a farm who owned a lot of gold, but didn\u2019t want to bequeath it to anyone after his death. In fact, the waterfall consists of two smaller waterfalls. The upper one is about 11 meters high and the lower one about 20 meters; the total height of the Gullfoss is therefore 31 meters. The gorge is about 2.5 kilometers long and 70 meters deep. A short time later, foreign buyers rented the waterfall.
