Pristine landscapes and clear night skies make stargazing another gem of this country. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-67d331c e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"67d331c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-55b2f44 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"55b2f44\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The darkest skies<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-80a1a67 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"80a1a67\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>4,300 square kilometres are recognised as an internationally protected sky reserve on <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/reise-guides\/10-highlights-auf-neuseelands-suedinsel\/\">New Zealand&#8217;s South Island<\/a>. The <em>International Dark Sky Reserve<\/em> in the Mt Cook and Mackenzie region is the largest in the world and is also considered by most to be the best. In the Light Reserve, darkness is considered a protected asset and the region is protected from light pollution. The reserve has also been awarded gold status.    <\/p>\n<p>In winter, if you&#8217;re lucky, you can spot the Southern Lights in the night sky. The so-called Aurora Australis are colour symphonies of purple, blue, green and yellow shades, which are created by collisions of atoms and energetic particles over the South Pole. Moke Lake<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a3a06a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a3a06a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Moke Lake was not actually on our route, but this spontaneous decision resulted in one of the most magical moments. It was already dark when we arrived at our campsite for the night. However, the deep black sky with thousands of diamonds took our breath away. Seeing this breathtaking sky reflected in the lake afterwards made this moment magical.   <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-37c15f0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"37c15f0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">4. Bob's Peak<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bead865 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bead865\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Bob&#8217;s Peak \u2013 taking a cable car to the top of the mountain and sweeping views over the lakes, mountains and the town of Queenstown&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>A town? We were just as surprised. We stayed until the sky above us changed to its famous dark colour, which allowed us to see the diamonds. Lake Pukaki<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4fecd26 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4fecd26\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Lake Pukaki is a turquoise jewel framed by beautiful mountain scenery. We reached the lake late in the evening and had no idea of our surroundings. Thus, we went on a short hiking tour. Eventually our camera showed us what we couldn&#8217;t see by naked eye in the darkness: the beautiful Lake Pukaki with a breathtaking mountain backdrop. The shining stars above our heads accentuated this breathtaking sight.    <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3b418ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3b418ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. Cathedral Cove<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31b5c48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"31b5c48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Cathedral Cove is one of the most beautiful places on the Coromandel Peninsula. The hike up to the cove takes about an hour and is a very different experience at night than during the day. The naturally formed rock arch is a famous photo motif and is visited by many tourists during the day. In the evening, however, pretty much all the tourists have left and you have this magical place to yourself. Nugget Point<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-32f2cbc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"32f2cbc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We arrived at Nugget Point early in the afternoon and waited all day for nightfall. The cape, which is called <span class=\"notion-enable-hover\" data-token-index=\"1\" data-reactroot=\"\">Tokata<\/span> in the Maori language, is a famous photo motif and also a highlight during the day.
