We set out to discover this unique blend of culture, nature and serenity. We recorded our experiences in a travel diary that reflects the beauty and magic of this island.   <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8936c7e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"8936c7e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e74f7f4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e74f7f4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Day 1: Hot arrival and spiritual dances<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5f9c2b0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5f9c2b0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The journey began with a flight full of anticipation, and as we stepped off the plane we were greeted by a wave of tropical heat. Our driver was waiting for us \u2013 and we immediately got a taste of the notorious Balinese traffic. Without seatbelts and with a concert of honking horns all around us, we drove through the chaos. Chaotic but somehow fascinating.   <\/p>\n<p>Our accommodation was a dream: small bungalow villas surrounded by greenery, like something out of a picture book. In the evening, a driver took us into town on a scooter \u2013 the hotel was on a hill and the journey was a bit of an adventure in itself. Later, we immersed ourselves in Balinese culture at a Paradise Dance at the Ubud Palace. The dances, the music, the costumes \u2013 it all seemed to come from another world.   <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-237dbe0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"237dbe0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The first evening in Ubud had another surprise in store: a man happily bathing in a stream &#8211; a scene that made us laugh. We were already super impressed on the first day and were looking forward to the next few days here in Bali! <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e0c8ba e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4e0c8ba\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85b40e3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"85b40e3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Day 2: Monkey alarm <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a265312 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a265312\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The day started with a delicious breakfast brought directly to our bungalow \u2013 a real luxury. Then we plunged into the hustle and bustle of the Ubud market. Colourful stalls, exotic smells and a lively atmosphere made the market an experience.  <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/sights\/sacred-monkey-forest-sanctuary-in-ubud\/\">Monkey Forest<\/a> was a highlight, but it also took our breath away \u2013 and not in a good way. The monkeys were wild and cheeky, pulling our hair, jumping on Carlo and stealing anything they could find. After this animal chaos, we treated ourselves to a quiet lunch in a restaurant. The afternoon was spent relaxing by the pool.   <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-88e29f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"88e29f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Even though the monkeys look super cute at first glance &#8211; which they kind of are &#8211; don&#8217;t underestimate them! One even peed on a boy! When I sat down on a bench for a moment, my lap became the scene of a monkey fight.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9b216b6 class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Day 3: High up at the Bali Swing<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e744a86 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e744a86\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A shuttle bus took us to the <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/sights\/welcome-to-bali-swing\/\">Bali Swing<\/a>, an attraction we were keen to experience. Giant swings towered over the jungle, offering breathtaking views \u2013 perfect for photos and unforgettable moments. The friendly staff greeted each new guest with a loud &#8216;Welcome to Bali Swing!  <\/p>\n<p>Although the place was busy, we really enjoyed the atmosphere. Before rushing to our shuttle, a lunch with cool drinks rounded off the visit. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2535ff e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"b2535ff\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1a0c695 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1a0c695\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Day 4: Pure relaxation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fa950ea elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fa950ea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>After these exciting days, we treated ourselves to some relaxation. Swimming in the pool, sipping coconuts and relaxing \u2013 the day was all about relaxation. In the evening we headed back to <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/travel-guides\/ubud-heart-of-balinese-culture\/\">Ubud<\/a> for dinner at a cosy restaurant, a perfect end to a relaxing day.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85b0c3c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"85b0c3c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As we were currently in <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/country\/australia\/\">Australia<\/a> on our <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/logbooks\/logbook-melbourne-brisbane-road-trip\/\">road trip from Melbourne to Brisbane<\/a> and were heading <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/travel-guides\/brisbane-cairns-road-trip-our-top-15-spots\/\">from Brisbane to Cairns<\/a> next, we enjoyed a quiet day.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f49c7ac gallery-spacing-custom elementor-widget elementor-widget-image-gallery\" terraces<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6674c46 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6674c46\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A special kind of adventure began with renting a scooter to explore the area on your own. A real bargain at just 5 Australian dollars! Our first stop was Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah), a stunning place full of spiritual significance. Dressed in a traditional sarong, we were immersed in the history and culture of Bali.   <\/p>\n<p>We then travelled to the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/sights\/tegallalang-rice-terrace-balis-hinterland\/\">Tegallalang rice terraces<\/a>. The view was simply breathtaking, with lush green terraces nestled into the landscape. We admired traditional Balinese ceramics and artwork in an art gallery. We then visited a plantation where the famous Kopi Luwak is produced. It was fascinating to see the luwaks (sneaky cats) up close and to taste different types of coffee and tea.   <\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the day was the evening at <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/en\/sights\/tanah-lot-temple\/\">Tanah Lot Temple<\/a>. As the sun slowly set, it turned the sky into warm shades of orange and gold, making the temple look like a work of art. In the evening we returned to Ubud for another evening of Balinese cuisine. Unfortunately, the day ended with a mild case of &#8216;Bali Belly&#8217; \u2013 luckily it wasn&#8217;t too bad.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30942e6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"30942e6\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3eea381 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3eea381\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Day 8: Farewell and homecoming<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-97f3959 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"97f3959\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Our last day started the way it should end \u2013 calm and relaxed. After a last hearty breakfast in our villa, we packed our bags. One last dip in the warm water, one last look at the greenery that had become so familiar to us over the past few days.  <\/p>\n<p>It was hard to say goodbye, but we were grateful for the memories we could take with us. At the airport we reminisced about the past few days as we waited for our flight. With a slight delay, we finally landed back in Brisbane \u2013 &#8216;home&#8217; in our van.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-22a2299 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"22a2299\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the airport we bought a bottle of water after the security check &#8211; only to have to give up all our drinks just before boarding. That was very interesting, well. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e583108 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"e583108\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75600d2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"75600d2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Our trip to Bali was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, chaos and idyll: we discovered a fascinating culture, fell in love with nature and experienced many unexpected moments. It was a trip we will never forget \u2013 and one that left us wanting more.
