Two of the most impressive are located in the south of the country: the world famous Seljalandsfoss and the more hidden Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai. Both waterfalls offer visitors a unique natural experience, complemented by their special location, fascinating history and cultural significance.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-08314d5 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"08314d5\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5226c63 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5226c63\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Location and accessibility<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b980a5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1b980a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Seljalandsfoss and Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai are two of the most famous and impressive waterfalls in Iceland. Both are located in the south of the country. <\/p>\n<p>Seljalandsfoss is located right on the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/destary.com\/reisen\/logbuch-island-roadtrip-ringstrasse-snaefellsnes-westfjorde\/\">Ring Road<\/a> (Route 1) that circles Iceland and is therefore easy to reach. It is about 120 kilometres from Reykjav\u00edk and can be easily reached by car. The waterfall falls 60 metres and is fed by the glacial river Seljalands\u00e1, which has its source in the mighty glacier Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull.  <\/p>\n<p>Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai, also known as the &#8216;Hidden Waterfall&#8217;, is only a few minutes walk away, hidden behind a crevice. Its name means &#8216;gorge dweller&#8217; as it is hidden in a small moss covered gorge. Although it is only 40 metres high, it has a mystical atmosphere.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac608d0 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ac608d0\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ee4f726 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ee4f726\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Seljalandsfoss: a waterfall to walk through<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-007f3cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"007f3cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Seljalandsfoss is a 60 metre high waterfall fed by the glacier Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull. The special thing about this waterfall is that it is possible to go behind the curtain of water. A well-maintained path leads to the back of the waterfall from where you have a unique view of the cascading water and the surrounding landscape. This experience is particularly impressive at sunset, when the light bathes the water droplets in a golden glow.   <\/p>\n<p>As well as being a breathtaking sight, Seljalandsfoss also has cultural significance. In Icelandic sagas and legends it is often described as a magical place where elves and other supernatural beings are said to live. This adds to the mystical atmosphere that many visitors feel when they experience the power of the water up close.  <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div elementor-size-default\">Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai: The hidden waterfall<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a767e23 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a767e23\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai, also known as &#8216;Water Veil Gorge&#8217;, is a hidden gem in a narrow rocky gorge. The name Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai means &#8216;gorge dweller&#8217; and is a reference to its remote location. The waterfall is about 40 metres high and falls through a narrow opening into a moss-covered gorge.  <\/p>\n<p>To see Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai up close, you have to wade through a small stream or balance over the slippery stones that lead into the gorge. But it&#8217;s well worth the effort, as the sight of the water cascading through the green walls of the gorge is unforgettable. Because of its hidden location, Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai is often less visited than nearby Seljalandsfoss, which makes it particularly attractive for travellers who want to get off the beaten track. Iceland&#8217;s geological activity. They were formed by the interaction of volcanoes, glaciers and rivers that have shaped Iceland&#8217;s landscape for thousands of years. Seljalandsfoss is part of the river Seljalands\u00e1, which is fed by a glacier. Glj\u00fafrab\u00fai, on the other hand, springs from an underground tributary and cascades through a natural rock formation typical of Iceland&#8217;s volcanic landscapes.   <\/p>\n<p>Waterfalls also play an important role in Icelandic culture. In Iceland, waterfalls are often regarded as sacred sites and are believed by many locals to be the dwelling place of nature spirits.
