Paris – the city of love – where every corner is steeped in history, art and irresistible atmosphere. Join us on a weekend trip to the French capital, the metropolis that takes hearts by storm, from the majestic heights of the Eiffel Tower to the quaint streets of Montmartre.
Day 1: Bienvenue à Paris
Our journey started with a majestic view from the Arc de Triomphe, followed by a walk over the ornate Pont Alexandre III and across the historic Pont Neuf. Our route took us to the imposing Notre-Dame Cathedral and finally to the iron elegance of the Tour Eiffel. We enjoyed admiring the Louvre from the outside before preparing for an evening in front of the Eiffel Tower. Rue de l’Université was undoubtedly the best place to experience the magical glow.
Day 2: A rendezvous with Monet, Vincent Van Gogh and Renoir
The morning took us to the picturesque streets of Montmartre, where the Sacré-Cœur Basilica towers over the city. A visit to the Galeries Lafayette offered not only excellent shopping, but also breathtaking views from both inside and out. We continued with a detour to the modern Centre Pompidou, the Place du Trocadéro and a charming walk through the historic district of Le Marais. In the afternoon, we immersed ourselves in the world of art at the Musée d’Orsay. The stunning collection of Impressionist masterpieces, including works by Monet, Van Gogh and Renoir, made us lose track of time. The Louvre may be bigger, but the charm of the Musée d’Orsay is incomparable.
In the evening, we let ourselves be spoilt by Parisian cuisine. A delicious dinner with crêpe for dessert was the crowning glory of an eventful day.
Sacré-Cœur, Musée d’Orsay and a sparkling Eiffel Tower in the evening – I think I have lost my heart to Paris.
Day 3: Drops, tombs and Louvre love.
We started our last day in Paris with another visit to the Eiffel Tower. Then the Louvre welcomed us with its impressive façade and we immersed ourselves in the treasures of this vast museum. Here we were enchanted by the impressive collection of ancient art through to the masterpieces of the Renaissance. The Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the Wings of Nike – each work of art told its own story. Our next stop was the mysterious Catacombes de Paris, where we wandered through the underground catacombs. Finally, we made our way to the imposing Panthéon, which is not only a stunning piece of architecture, but also the final resting place of many famous people. Inside the Panthéon are the tombs of some of France’s greatest thinkers, writers and scientists, including Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo and Marie Curie. On our way through the city, we also discovered the Palais-Royal and the historic Place de la Bastille.
We spent the evening at a cosy pizzeria called The Brooklyn Pizzeria, followed by our daily ritual of admiring the sparkling Eiffel Tower.
The Panthéon: Maybe not so interesting for many, but as I studied philosophy as a second subject, I found it particularly exciting! The Louvre: Breathtaking, of course! And the catacombs? A bit spooky, but definitely a must see for anyone interested in the history of Paris!
Day 4: Au revoir, Paris
Our last day began with a leisurely breakfast at Kozy Bosquet. Then we headed to the airport to start our journey home.
These days in Paris will always be remembered as a romantic trip full of art, culture and culinary delights.
Au revoir, Paris – see you next time!
